2009 Henning Kids’ Own “Advent Conspiracy”
Dear Friends and Family,
Christmas is next month! We feel so blessed and are excited to celebrate the new season. Below are some notes from our two youngest girls regarding their Christmas lists. This year our family has decided to support two organizations during Christmas, La Vida Education and Heifer International. La Vida Education is a literacy center in Nicaragua and Heifer is an organization that distributes livestock all over the globe to help families break the chain of poverty.
We have talked about this lately (a lot) and our kids have realized how much we have and how little others have. Sophie struggled with the idea of getting less at Christmas, but she has decided this is something she wants to do and is embracing it. We are cutting back as a family in order to help others and if you were already going to buy a present for the kids, we would love for you to either give a few dollars in lieu of the present or even just buy a simpler gift so that we can help both of these causes. You can even just join forces in our cause to raise these funds. Our goals for this season are:
One goat $120
A flock of chicks $20
Books and Art Supplies for a literacy center in Nicaragua $100
The kids are gathering their spare change as well and we plan to send the money off by mid December. Just let us know if you are interested in pitching in. Every dime helps.
From Sophie: Please don’t spend too much money on buying me Christmas presents. Please just help us save up money so we can buy an animal for somebody across the world who does not have very much money to buy stuff.
From Madelyn: We are trying to buy a goat and a flock of chicks for people in another country so they can live and help their family. I really want other people to have good things just like us. They were born in poor countries and that don’t have the things we do. Goats are really good because they have milk and their poop helps things grow. They eat lots of different things so they can live in a lot of places. Chickens are good too because they lay eggs for food. I am really happy that the kids in Nicaragua will get art supplies so they can have stuff to do. I love art and hope they can become great artists.
